Physical Education

The school believes that physical education experienced in a safe and supportive environment is vital and unique in its contribution to a pupil’s physical and emotional development and health.

The school offers a balance of individual, team,co-operative and competitive activities that enable pupils of all abilities to achieve success as well as provide challenge. These activities fall into the areas of team games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and swimming. Within the games programme pupils acquire and develop skills which enable them to play Football, Hockey, Rugby, Netball, Tennis, Cricket and Rounders. Year 4 children take part in a Swimming programme led by qualified swimming instructors at Waterlooville Pool. Pupils at Horndean Junior School receive two hours of PE per week and some units of work are also supplemented by specialist sports coaches leading lessons.
