We encourage children to feel positive and confident in their approach to mathematics and problem solving. A range of teaching styles are used to develop the children’s ability to manipulate numbers, their awareness of shape, space and measurement and to explain their thinking using the correct mathematical vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on mental strategies leading to more structured methods of calculation, supported with practical equipment and strategies.
Children are encouraged to use their mathematics in different contexts across the whole curriculum.
