Introduction from the Headteacher

Horndean Junior School, a Church of England Controlled School, has a community which is very proud of its school. As a church school we strive to develop the spiritual life of the children placing particular emphasis on the Christian Gospel. We aim to create a safe, caring, structured yet exciting environment so that all our pupils have the opportunity to recognise a potential that they may not realise they have whether it be academic, the arts, music, sports, ICT or the sciences.

It is not only the formal education of your child that we want to ensure. We want children to leave Horndean Junior School self-reliant and confident, able to articulate feelings and ideas and make sound decisions based on what they have learned whilst with us. We attach great importance to the development of social skills and relationships both with their peers and all members of the community. We believe that children need to develop skills to help them learn throughout their lives. To achieve this staff ensure that their classrooms are communities of enquiry.

The focus of the school’s work is to ensure that your child gains knowledge, skills and a range of thinking techniques in an atmosphere which is caring, supportive and exciting.Crucial to all of this is your involvement as parents. We believe that children flourish in a school when links between home and school are active. We want to provide frequent opportunities to inform you about the ways in which we are working, and the ways in which you can support us in making your child’s time at Horndean Junior School both rewarding and happy. If you would like to find out more we would be delighted to welcome you to the school at any time.
